After launching Brazilian model Giselle Monteiro in Love Aaj Kal, filmmaker Imtiaz Ali is set to launch another foreigner in his next film, Rockstar. Nargis Fakhri, a New York-based, half Czech, half Pakistani model, has been cast opposite Ranbir Kapoor.
Fakhri, 21, who took several rounds of auditions for the role of a dancer in the film, has also featured in the 2009 Kingfisher swimsuit calendar. She has admitted in an earlier interview that whatever she knows of India is through Bollywood.
"In fact, I haven't even visited Pakistan, my father's homeland," she said. She has also revealed that the best thing about her is her mixed parentage.
"It gives me an exotic look, which is appreciated in international fashion circles. No one can place where I'm from," she said. While Imtiaz Ali remained unavailable for comment, a spokesperson from Eros International, the film's co-producers, said that an official announcement about the leading lady for Rockstar will be made soon.
